The choir "Ars Nova" de Cieza won the July 18 first prize at the XXIX National Contest of Habanera de Totana (20/07/2009)

The choir "Ars Nova" de Cieza won the July 18 first prize at the XXIX National Contest of Habanera de Totana, which is endowed with 2,500 euros and a trophy, and is provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Community.

The second prize, awarded by the Federation of Choirs of the Murcia Region with 1,900 euros and a trophy and special Polyphony, sponsored by the city of Totana to 600 euros and a trophy, were presented to the Chamber Choir "Oretania" of Ciudad Real .

On the other hand, the third prize, sponsored by CajaMurcia with 1,300 euros and a trophy, he got the "Coral Studium Vocale Paterna (Valencia) and the fourth prize, awarded by the City of Totana to 600 euros and a trophy went to Coral Griñón (Madrid).

The event, attended by around hundred people also attended the Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, the councilman of Culture, Ana Belén García, and the director of CajaMurcia in Totana, Pedro Arias López who were presenting awards to the winning choirs.

The winning group is composed of 42 mixed voices, and since it was founded in 1994 has performed throughout the Region of Murcia, and other communities such as Valencia, Aragon, Galicia and Andalusia, among others.

The Coral "Ars Nova" has a long history of awards in various contests and competitions and Totana Habaneras Contest have also won awards before, in 1998, became the special prize José Alarcón and claimed victory in totanero Habaneras Contest in 2000.

This choir performed the required habanera "Thee", the composer totanero Ramón Hernández Cano, "La Golondrina" by José Pagán, "Linda Cubana", popular in Totana, "polyphony," Round the syringe, "Peter Braña and "The Bells of Dawn" by Benito Lauret.

The event was held at the Municipal Auditorium "Marcos Ortiz" in this town, and it took a total of four choirs and vocal groups from different parts of Spain, as well as local Polyphonic Choir Vox Musicalis "and Santiago de Totana, which acted outside of the competition and invited groups

The jury was chaired by the Ursa Electra Ayala, and members were John Smith, Felicia Rivers Quirós, Bernadet Kühne Bermejo and Juan Francisco Sáez Uber, who served as secretary.
