During the Municipal Council of Citizen Participation and rehabilitation activities planned for urban regeneration urban (ARRU), with which it is intended to involve the society in the city model for the future they were also discussed.

The application of the "Regenerate Totana" has been defined in the districts they represent a unique urban area, and they need a strategy of urban regeneration with a long term view and not just with the idea of ​​solving specific and specific problems.

The delimitation of the area includes the districts of San Jose, San Roque, Las Parras, Jail, The Friars and the historic center, with an area of ​​645,000 square meters, representing 27% of the area of ​​the present village and 24 % of the population.

Technicians are working in the direction of the project was presented have been identified this area as being the one who suffers the biggest imbalances from the rest of the town, whose growth resulted in neighborhoods with better planning, infrastructure, supply of equipment, systems communication and mobility, giving residents more favorable terms of opportunities and quality of life.

With this project it is intended, as explained, a balance between the two areas of population, advocating a city model that enables intercommunication between all parties.

The defined area has a shortage of public spaces and facilities and offers a poor communication with the rest of the population, progressive deterioration of buildings, trade and lack of nearby amenities, problems of coexistence and citizen security for settlement of people from economy more in some cases weak and marginalized.

The EDUSI is a program that will be funded by the ERDF 2014/2020 sustainable growth program, whose main objective is to improve the quality of life for residents in an integrated manner;

ie including issues ranging from social cohesion and the fight against poverty, to the promotion of low-carbon economy, environmental sustainability and resource optimization.

The Consistory is already immersed in the development of its Strategic Plan with the horizon since 2020, based on the model that the European Union has defined as Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated (EDUSI) Development, whose strategy is necessary for Totana can access EU funds available to local authorities.

Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the European Union;

and within this strategy, the European Commission believes that cities are central to the model of sustainable development and therefore fostered through structural and cohesion policy funds, the implementation of integrated sustainable urban development measures integrating social, economic and environmental areas of cities from an integrated perspective.

Strategy for EU funding necessary

Thus, the goal of the City of Totana is developing a Sustainable Urban Development Strategy for the municipality;

a tool that has become necessary to obtain European funding needed for urban development of the city framed in the multiannual financial framework EU 2014/2020.

The project has several lines of integrated action through social cohesion and equality, environment and urban regeneration;

employment, entrepreneurship and trade;

infrastructure, cultural heritage and tourism;

and citizen participation and open government, among others.

Activities to each other and forms of participation in the Plan will be different and adapted to each case, public presentations may contain maps agents, sectoral meetings, working groups, commissions and tips, information and communication activities, conferences open, web pages, surveys and so on.

In fact, the municipal government, along with municipal technicians involved in the field, and challenged writers have already held a meeting in order to coordinate actions and measures to be taken in this regard.
