President of COATO with UN Secretary General (31/10/2015)

COATO president was one of the 26 presidents and leaders of Spanish companies and institutions that held last Thursday in Madrid a wide 29 working meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, to commit to the Millennium Development sustainable millennium, driven last September by the UN General Assembly.

The meeting was attended, among others, leaders of the main Spanish companies: the financial sector (CaixaBank, BBVA, Santander and ICO);

of the energy sector (Repsol, Endesa, Iberdrola, Red Electrica and Enagas);

infrastructure and services (Acciona, Ferrovial, Abengoa, Telefónica and Agbar);

Business schools (Instituto de Empresa and Esade);

insurance (Mapfre) or business organizations (CEOE).

COATO was one of the very few companies SME that had the privilege to participate in that meeting, in his capacity as member of the Executive Committee of the Global Compact of the United Nations in Spain, on whose behalf, the President of COATO was appointed in 2014 coordinator Working Group on sustainable agriculture and Company UN in Spain;

working group led UN development as one of the agreements reached at the 2012 Rio +20 summit, which was also attended by representative COATO.

The UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon moved to the leaders of the Spanish companies that "you need to show the world that green business is good business."

José Luis Hernández besides being submitted to protocol before the meeting- had the opportunity to greet and briefly inform the Secretary General of the UN, during the cocktail back to the meeting held with representatives of the Spanish civil society ;

the strong commitment that has made COATO and more than 3,000 partners, for the sustainable management and conversion to organic farming.

Bet that has materialized in the fact that COATO is, for several years, the European leader in area under organic farming.

And it was the first company or Spanish company to receive the European Award for the Environment of the European Commission and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), from the hands of the then European Commissioner for the environment and driving Natura 2000 Network, Margot Wallström.

Precisely Ban Ki-Moon stressed in the meeting that the preservation of the environment along with the crisis of refugees fosters a more sustainable world must make a stronger company and a more prosperous markets.

At the same time he added that the next Summit of Climate Change this December in Paris, will be an opportunity for progress in such an important issue to advance several of the objectives of sustainable development UN

As stated by Jose Luis Hernandez "has been a privilege and a great encouragement as SME, with several thousand members who practice sustainable agriculture, have the chance that the leader of the United Nations, has informed us that companies We are working on making more sustainable management and linked to corporate social responsibility (CSR) contained in the ten principles of the UN Global Compact;

We are not only aligned by the objectives of sustainable development goals of the UN, but -as we required the Secretary General of the UN enterprises, the private sector, have a key role in achieving the goals set by the UN to achieve highlighted at the meeting, according to Ban Ki-Moon-more sustainable world we want. "
