The Mayor of Totana, Juan José Canovas, attended today the Council of Mayors, an event organized for the first organism in which he advocated the need to promote decentralization in some skills that directly affect municipal management, providing them with more financial resources.
The mayor hopes that the Council of Mayors is a real instrument of mutual cooperation between the regional administration and local, and used to correct the imbalance between the two as well as initiating the way to a necessary decentralization of powers and funding.
In his speech, the mayor referred to the need to promote decentralization to municipalities important powers in the area such as employment, social services and others, providing them with financial resources;
and he decided to deepen the autonomy to the local governments.
In this sense, Canovas urged the regional administration contribute to improving the financing of municipalities, as in the case of Totana;
and also he stressed the jurisdictional issue raised following the adoption of the Act Streamlining and Sustainability of Local Administration, which urges a solution soon and will not dismantle municipal powers.
The mayor also referred to the problem of improper competences that municipalities, and already raised yesterday the president of the Regional Government, Pedro Antonio Sanchez;
and he argued that also strengthen the role of citizens closer to government services are delivered more efficiently and effectively.
First meeting
The Council of Mayors created with the aim to discuss and analyze proposals of municipal interest in all areas, with the regional government wants to set the stage to collect, directly, the demands and proposals of Murcia mayors to give better response to citizens.
45 aldermen were cited in the Palacio de San Esteban to lay the foundations of this new cooperative forum between administrations.
