In this talk several myths or misconceptions are present (eg sweating is good for losing weight, getting abs is good for removing love handles, sport = health, etc.), the erroneous behaviors associated with these myths (eg catch girdles or sweatshirts for running, crunches buy various appliances, etc.) and we have alternatives to these behaviors.

-Exercise Physical and musculoskeletal health.

In this talk I will highlight the problematic exercises that are commonly used in gyms, weight rooms and sports centers, showing the problems (health risk, inefficiency and neglect of physical activity, etc.) and presenting alternatives more effective and safer.

VERA JOSE FRANCISCO GARCIA

After obtaining a degree in Physical Education from the University of Valencia in 1996 (with honors), began doctoral studies in the Department of Anatomy and Embryology of the University thanks to a Predoctoral Fellowship from the Generalitat Valenciana (FPI-97-VS -20-0034-G).

During doctoral studies conducted two research visits (three months at the University of Waterloo in Canada, and two months at the University of Queensland, Australia).

He received his PhD in Physical Education in 2002 (Cum Laude) after defending the thesis entitled: "neuromuscular adaptations after a dynamic abdominal training program and another static".

In 2004 he obtained a Postdoctoral Fellowship (CTBPDC / 2004/027) for a research stay of one year duration in Spine Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Waterloo.

In this facility under the supervision of Professor Stuart M. McGill, participated in several projects and publications on spinal stability and conditioning of the muscles of the trunk.

Since 2005 he teaches courses in Biomechanics and Physical Activity and Health in the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche, where he is currently Associate Professor, Dean of Management Studies, Faculty of Sociosanitarias Sciences, Director of the Doctoral Program in Piscología the Health, Deputy Director of the Masters in Performance and Health, Director of the Laboratory of Biomechanics and Health Research Centre for Sport and Group Director BIOMEC Biomechanics Research for Health and Sports Performance.

In the BIOMEC Group develops three main research areas: 1) Biomechanics of the spine and conditioning of the muscles of the trunk;

2) Biomechanics of the technical and sporting goods;

2) Prevention of sports injuries and physical rehabilitation.

In relation to scientific production, we can highlight the following merits:

- Has participated in 14 projects of R + D + i financed by public funds both national and international, with approximately € 300,000 grant.

- He has participated in 10 contracts for R & D + i of particular relevance with companies and / or administrations and 7 service benefits to businesses and individuals, for a total grant of more than € 120,000.

- He is the author of numerous articles in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports and in journals indexed in other databases (Scopus, Latindex, Dice-CINDOC, etc.) as well as 3 books and 6 book chapters.

The most important is 7 items that have been published in journals located in the first quartile of the Journal Citation Reports.

- He is the author of more than 120 appearances at conferences and national and international scientific conferences.

Of these shares has been a guest speaker on 15 occasions, 7 and 8 nationally internationally.
