Request that future Regional Forestry Office is installed in Totana (23/01/2015)

The Councillor for Environment Totana, María José Bedia, has raised a motion for debate in the regular full in January urging the Directorate General of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, to install the future Regional Forestry Office in Totana, responding to the demands of the agricultural unions and farmers of this county, according to municipal sources in a statement.

In the motion explained that the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia has appropriate powers, through the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Management and management of the region;

as well as planning and forest management, preparation of plantes harvesting and forest improvement and implementation of forestry projects, conservation and management thereof.

In addition, it also has assumed responsibility for development and implementation of regional forest management strategy and all records relating to the processing of on performances in forestry.

The regional park Espuña great natural wealth and interest, was protected with this statement in 1992, and covers an area of ​​17,804 hectares and more than 25,000 counting on your mountain range.

Since 1973, over 14,000 hectares were declared Natural Game Reserve.

Espuña encompasses territories of the municipalities of Totana, Alhama de Murcia, Mula, Aledo and Pliego;

Currently, the Autonomous Community provides a forestry strategy assuming the critical role played by regional forests to maintain biodiversity, desertification control and conservation of essential socio-economic and cultural values.

To do this, the regional forestry areas are divided into county areas in order to provide managers and technical planning and management tools which specify and develop the outline and performance criteria of the Administration in the wild.

Currently, the regional park of Sierra Espuña has a Regional Bureau of Forest Management in the Interpretation Centre "Ricardo Codorniú" in the town of Alhama, which manages the mountains of Totana, Aledo and Alhama de Murcia;

and a total of six environmental agents are assigned.

Numerous efforts being made in these services as authorizations to permit controlled burns, damage to crops by animals, transplant trees and pruning, plowing request, actions related to hydrological and forest correction, records of forest ownership, boundaries and swaps and many more paperwork.

These procedures until now have been correcting for the kindness and management of environmental agents in Totana settled that one way or another these administrative procedures performed or assisted and directing those affected to solve them.

But in recent times, and given the constraints of government, numerous farmers and representatives of agricultural unions represented in Totana who addressed the City restless and upset by administrative problems generated by this situation.

In response, the City of Totana would be willing, in order to respond to the demands of these farmers and avoid the hassle of traveling in other municipalities and administrative burdens that accompany them, offer a local municipal property to the Directorate General Environment for the location of an office providing these services.

Thus, the Consistory totanero lend some dependencies in the current Municipal Emergency Center in the old school "La Cruz" in Totana, to install the Forestry Regional Office in order to address the difficulties caused by this situation and the difficulties of these efforts for users and farmers.

This service would allow environmental agents to deal with their office work, information and guidance and assistance to farmers and forest owners in Totana.
