The mayor propose to Parliament that the name of the library, located in the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail" as "Municipal Library Mateo Garcia" (15/01/2015)

The mayor will propose to Full Council of Totana, to be held next week, the name of the library, located in the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail" as "Municipal Library Mateo Garcia".

The municipal councilor recalled the usual call to the best spaces and public places or infrastructure with the proper name of people who have excelled both in their human careers as professional or public.

In this sense, and considering the Municipal Regulation for granting Honors and Awards in Title VI of dedication of streets, public buildings and monuments, as stated by the mayor, has been whether to call a public space with name of Mateo Garcia, Chronicler of the City of Totana since 2000 and adopted son since 2008, since in his figure attend all the qualities and merits that make him worthy of this distinction.

Matthew Garcia was born in 1940 in the nearby town of Alhama de Murcia, but his life has been more intimately linked to Totana since his teens;

after his family moved to our town for work.

Since those years and to date, Mateo Garcia has worked tirelessly in the research, study and collection of historical documents related to the town of Totana.

His love for journalism began hand Grenadian journalist Antonio Márquez, after which he began his career working with the Journal Line Murcia writing about Totana, in the first instance, and Mazarron, Aledo, Alhama and booklets, in a later step .

In those years, they also requested their collaboration in the newspaper Information Alicante, Leaves Monday of Alicante and Murcia, National Radio of Spain (where he worked for over 25 years), Information Agency EFE.

Besides being a correspondent for newspapers and radio, lecturer, writer of antique, collector and self documents, their contribution to literature has been nominated or awarded several times by different agencies such as the Viscount Prix de Eza, the Movement Press, or Press Association of Murcia.

In these years, he served a wide informative activity that has allowed to take the name of Totana through the media and collaborations outside our municipality;

and has published a dozen books on Totana, while a photographic archive treasures and collections on various criteria.

It was a true student of local historical facts and authentic chronicler of our town, who have turned the City Council and other institutions and individuals seeking information and documents about events of our past as well as the biography of more varied characters of our past and present.

This long career and neat edition of interesting publications on historical, biographical, documentaries and images related to Totana studies.

he was awarded the appointment of official chronicler of the Loyal and Noble Ciudad de Totana after completion of the record, on the floor of September 12, 2000 and adopted son of the City, adopted at the Full Council of Totana 22 August 2008.
