The Minister of Culture visits the Field Argárico La Bastida (24/10/2012)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, has visited the Field Argárico La Bastida, along with the Mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sanchez, the director general of Cultural Property, Francisco Gimenez, and those responsible for the excavation to establish a coordinated work plan in order to value the most important excavation of the Bronze Age in the entire European continent.

Policy makers have known of the hand of the professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and head of research, Vicente Lull, the work being done to the archaeological musealization both in the Field and in the annexes which are located laboratories and showrooms.

Archeological excavations this year at the archaeological site have unearthed a massive fortification system unique in its time.

The finding confirms, along with the other discoveries made in recent years, the city was the most developed European settlement in political and military terms during the Bronze Age (4200 years ago, 2200 BC) matched only Minoan civilization Crete.

For this reason, as stated by the mayor, is being drawn along with the Autonomous Region and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​a roadmap to allow conservation of recent discoveries and the enhancement of tourism in this complex way archaeological.

Sánchez Ruíz Totana has stressed that tourism resources necessary to be an important point in the Murcia region of attraction for tourists, the site of La Bastida, along with the Shrine of the Holy, and the historic city center, will encourage the municipality to become a regional reference and pointer in tourism.

For his part, the Minister recalled that the finding of the wall is a projection reinforcement heritage of the region, a place for culture, study and knowledge.

Therefore, according to Cruz, is going to put every effort to guarantee the conservation of the new findings and initiate tourism promotion campaign Reservoir.

Towards a unique archaeological park in Spain

Excavations at La Bastida are led by the research team Arqueoecología Group Social and Mediterranean (Hover) the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), formed by teachers Vicente Lull, Rafael Mico, Cristina and Roberto Risch Rihuete.

They are supported and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Region of Murcia, UAB, Totana City Council, the Ministries of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Economy and Competitiveness have also supported the project.

La Bastida be excavated systematically seeks to offer the public a unique archaeological park in Spain, bringing together a monographic museum, a research and documentation center, and a site suitable for your visit.
