The choir Vox Totana Musicalis won Villaricos (31/07/2012)

After weeks of arduous preparation, the components of this coral totanera moved on Saturday to land Almeria to participate in the XII National Contest of Habanera and Polyphonies Villaricos, seafaring hamlet of Cuevas del Almanzora, which have already participated in 2003, obtaining at that time a worthy second prize.

After the summer break of 2011, in which the event could not take place, the great interest of its people for music, and Havana in particular has led to the enormous effort made this year by the Department of Culture Cuevas del Almanzora and Almeria County Council for the recovery of the event, a true "cultural reference" as said the councilor, Maria Dolores Moreno.

Also participating Musicalis Vox, Voices Choir Crevillentinas the Crevillente (Alicante) and the Vocal Group Undines of Granada.

The three groups performed five pieces each, two and three Havana polyphony, including the Havana bound "Battleships" with lyrics of the late Jose Antonio Martinez and music Mecca Belmonte Miguel Caparros, who also served on the jury.

The choir Vox Musicalis conducted a careful interpretation of the Havana and completed his repertoire bound to Havana "tropical flavored" by Jorge Domingo and Eduardo Tejada, and "the rhythm of habanera" by Evaristo Pérez García, and the complicated polyphony "With a Lily in Your Hand" by Eric Whitacre and "Songs of the garden", by Albert Alcaraz, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

After the performance of participating choirs, guest soprano Bethlehem Ruipérez zarzuela excerpts played to the delight of the audience, while the four components were leaving the jury to deliberate.

Finally, "and the jury unanimously", as was highlighted in the report issued to meet the competition, was awarded the first and only award planned for this year, consisting of the traditional anchor of silver and 2,500 € to Vox Musicalis Coral.

Its members erupted in joy surrounded by loud applause and countless public congratulations basket, while Pedro Perez, director of the choir, collected the award from the local mayor and Representative of Culture.

After that, the jurors personally congratulated Pedro Perez and according to him, thanked him for "the time so enjoyable that they had made coral totanera happen."
