Martínez Andreo Sotoca and lay the foundation stone of the College to replace the existing Education Center "La Cruz" (26/01/2011)

The Minister of Education, Training and Employment, Sotoca Constantine, and the Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, have laid the first stone of the college to replace the current center of "The Cross" and whose investment exceeds 3.5 million euros and will house 450 students in a double line building, located in the "La Ramblica."

Martínez Andreo congratulated the educational community of the current center of La Cruz, who just turned 65 years of history, and was "unacceptable that the students could enjoy a quality education in appropriate facilities and thanks to the commitment of government team from the hand of the unconditional support of the Autonomous Region has achieved a great project.

This school, which will be built by Ferrovial Agroman in eight months, has a budget of 3.6 million euros and will have 18 classrooms, 6 and 12 Primary Children in three blocks that will be built in an area of 10,000 square meters.

Each of the buildings will house spaces basically kindergarten, primary and general administrative services block Gym, multipurpose room and auxiliary facilities.

Martínez Andreo recalled that this term has been marked by the commitment of the government team in Education and the remodeling and new educational facilities which have enabled the municipality owns the excellence and quality that the educational community and students demand.

In this sense, the mayor explained that they have been more than seven million which were invested during this term in almost all schools in the municipality.

During the event, which was also attended by the director general of Department, María José Jiménez, the Councillor for Education, Trini Cayuela, the Planning, María José Bedia, most municipal authorities, the director of the Colegio La Cruz, teachers, parents and mothers, and other directors of almost all schools in the county, Martínez Andreo has indicated that this project will be carried out thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the Autonomous Community.

For its part, the Minister said that the replacement of the center "is a necessary work, given the increased demand for places in the area, and given the age of the plant on which it now operates that were built almost 80 years. "

In addition, Sotoca added that the transfer of students to a new building, "wider and better sizing will result in improved academic performance, while making further progress toward educational excellence in the Region of Murcia."

However, the Minister recalled that the improvement of the network of centers is one of the pillars of Social Pact for Education within its objectives by improving the quality of education in the region and therefore stated that "it is much needed investment to which even in times of crisis like the present we are not willing to resign. "
