The primary and secondary school Totana know more closely the work performed by Air Surveillance Squadron (EVA 13) thanks to the exposure and the development of several seminars that are being implemented in the Socio-Cultural Center "Jail."
Through this project, promoted by the Commonwealth Espuña Tourism and funded by the Ministry of Defence, will be an open house and a series of conferences to disseminate the uses that man has made of the natural resources of the Sierra .
The mayor of Totana and president of the Commonwealth, José Martínez Andreo, inaugurated the seminar along with the commander of EVA 13, José Vicente Rollo, and the Councillor for Tourism, Maria Isabel Sanchez Mendez.
Throughout the month of November, the traveling photo exhibit will travel to the municipalities in this Commonwealth.
The sample consists of approximately 20 photographs divided into panels, which explains what are the main functions of the Squadron.
Martínez Andreo reminded that it is very important to disseminate among youth the role of the armed forces and their role played in the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña.
Through these seminars we explain the culture of defense in the school and the involvement of the Region of Murcia in aerial surveillance.
This seminar consists of a talk given by a senior EVA13 and an audiovisual presentation, which lasts 45 minutes.
History of EVA 13
On 10 May 1994 establishing the Air Surveillance Squadron No. 13, sharing the settlement with the CT-5 Army.
Subsequently began construction of the facilities that make up the Air Surveillance Squadron No. 13, opened on January 10, 1995.
In June the same year he installed radar systems and data transmission, then starting the test period aimed at achieving the full performance of the equipment and its full integration into the Automated Air Defense System.
In July 1997 the Army transferred its facilities to the Air Force, which takes care of them, creating the 16th Air Surveillance Squadron and No 13 Air barracks "Espuña."
Since then, EVA # 13 assumes a 'right first and second step of RMWEA node, and from July 2001 Attended Nodal Centre 450 (CNA-450) of the Joint Military Telecommunications System.
In February 1998, work began on the infrastructure for the installation of a new radar, which would replace the TPS-43.
These works were completed in September 2000 and in October started the installation of equipment and the SPEAR radar antenna for reception takes place in July 2001.
This radar, domestically produced, is the first of their series in service.
The radar that is currently integrated next-generation replaces AN/TPS-43 is developed by the domestic industry and equipped with a redundant subsystems.
Communications equipment consist of the Joint Military Telecommunications System, the radio station ground / air transportable and fax, teletype and telephone.

The Air Surveillance Squadron (EVA's) are the air units responsible for procurement, processing and transmission of radar data for further exploitation by the Command and Control Group, to enable the fulfillment of the mission assigned to the control system and Air Traffic Control.
