They launch a special campaign to clean up excreta and urine from dogs on public roads (03/03/2018)

The Department of City Services has recently launched a special campaign to clean up excrement and urine of dogs on public roads in order to intensify the cleanup of the serious problem that affects the different neighborhoods of Totana.

Councilman Víctor Balsas explained that the forecast of these extraordinary works is considered two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for three and a half hours each day (from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.).

The cleaning team consists of a laborer who will perform manual sweeping and a light vehicle, which will remove the excrement from the public road and apply an anti-insect repellent for dogs and cats especially in spaces with a special concentration of urine to prevent new.

The action area is basically the entire urban area, which will be divided into several sectors and whose actions will be localized according to the incidents that are detected in the morning hours and in the specific afternoon itself.

The mayor explained that the excrement and urine in the public road has become a problem and with this plan we intend to increase the frequency of cleaning, although he has recognized that this is not enough if the pet owners do not correct these uncivil behaviors.

Balsas clarified that "although it is true that the vast majority of pet owners act appropriately collecting the excrement, there is a minority that does not cooperate and that causes a loss to the rest of the citizens, damaging the image of the city."

Precisely, the Local Police of Totana, with the collaboration of the Department of Health and Animal Protection, has initiated actions in order to verify that dogs and cats in the locality are identified by microchip and vaccinated annually against rabies.

With this initiative, it is intended to comply with Law 6/2017, of November 8, on the protection and defense of companion animals of the Region of Murcia, which regulates the conditions of possession and transport of companion animals, to guarantee their welfare, as well as the relationships of those animals to avoid damages in their social environment.
