The environmental awareness and information campaign "Recycles and breathes" begins to encourage the recycling of waste (13/11/2017)

The citizen awareness initiative includes several actions aimed at the adult and school population, such as the "Recycle and win" and "In recycling, you paint a lot" competitions.

The City Council of Totana has started, as in previous years, the environmental information and awareness campaign entitled "Recicla y respira", which is carried out in collaboration with the company "Ecoembalajes España, SA" (Ecoembes) with the ultimate goal of encouraging the reduction of urban solid waste, the separation at source and the consequent recycling of packaging.

The councilors of Environment and Urban Solid Waste (RSU), Antonia Camacho, and Environmental Education, Isabel María Molino, recently presented the actions that bring together this campaign of citizen awareness, which aims to involve the population of Totana in a proper culture of recycling.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of separation at source of light packaging and paper-cardboard for subsequent storage in the corresponding container for management and treatment with the ultimate goal of achieving an increase in the rate of recycling, and the consequent care in the environment.

With this initiative it is wanted to show in a tangible way the benefits that the recycling of the residues that are deposited in the yellow container (cans, plastic containers and bricks) both in the protection of the quality of the air and in the care of the environment , as well as encourage the separation of waste at source (from the homes themselves) and decrease the percentage of "improper" from the blue and yellow containers.

This campaign is carried out with the aim of improving the selective collection of waste in Totana and increase environmental awareness of the population, school and adult, affecting the use of containers in the clean points distributed in different parts of the urban area and the districts.

The initiative includes two specific actions through two separate contests called "Recycle and win" and "In recycling, you paint a lot", which have been developed with great success in previous editions;

and that in the first case it is addressed to the general public, and in the second case, exclusively to students of the 4th year of Primary Education of the educational centers of the municipality of Totana.

4th Contest "In recycling, you paint a lot"

Through this campaign that will be developed in all schools in the municipality, the search for the development of attitudes and habits that involve full awareness and responsible action in improving the environment is favored.

The campaign is carried out through an active methodology, with an explanation of the main concepts of recycling, with informative material, in an entertaining and playful way, in which the contest serves to generate a conscience that awakens the sensitivity towards the care of the environment environment.

This is how girls and boys learn the importance of separating waste correctly, and how recycling helps improve the quality of the planet's air.

In a complementary way, the schools will be offered the possibility of receiving an explanatory talk about recycling and its benefits for the environment;

and as a novelty compared to previous years, this exercise will be distributed in all educational centers new yellow containers.

The winners of the contest will receive a diploma and several gifts: a tablet (first prize), an MP4 (second prize) and a batch of school material.

5th "Recycle and win" contest

This initiative aims to promote the recycling of the population in general and, more specifically, the selective collection in Totana, so that a reward will be awarded to the citizens as a reward for the effort they make from their homes, separating their waste for later take them to a "mobile green point" and deposit them in the corresponding container.

Participants can take their waste from plastic containers, cans and bricks or paper-cardboard to the "mobile green point" formed by a mobile information point and four selective collection containers- during the contest development days (from 14 to 30 November), at the time set for it, from 11:00 to 12:30 and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., respectively.

The "mobile green point" will travel through the following locations on the dates indicated: November 14 and 15, Juan de la Cierva square (in front of Glorieta);

November 16 and 17, La Santa rambla (in front of the municipal park);

November 18 and 19, Cañaza Zamora (Rosa and San Ramón streets intersection);

November 20 and 21, Jardín Tierno Galván;

November 22nd and 23rd, San Francisco de Asís street (next to the fairgrounds);

and November 29 and 30, Plaza de la Constitución.

For each waste deposit (at least one complete waste bag is understood), the environmental educator will deliver to the citizen a participation card (data of the contestant) that will be entered in an urn, from which the draw will be made to deliver the prize of the winner of a one-night stay for two people in a spa in the Region of Murcia.

In addition, in support of the campaign, 70 posters and 1,000 information brochures will be published on the procedure and development of the same that will be distributed by establishments and public spaces in the locality.

The councilors responsible for these areas encouraged neighbors to participate in these awareness-raising actions given the importance of their role in the recycling of light packaging and paper-cardboard with the consequent care of the environment.
