The Platform against the High Voltage Line demands the regional government a response to their demands (21/06/2017)

The platform against the High Voltage Line, which starts from the solar macroplantation that the multinational X-Elio intends to build in Zarcilla de Ramos (Lorca) will cross the municipalities of Aledo and Totana, has directed two writings to the new President of the Autonomous Community Of the Region of Murcia and the competent counselor, demanding a response to their claims.

The Platform has been asking for a change in the layout of the high voltage line that does not affect homes, crops, or the natural environment for almost two years and that the mandatory environmental impact studies that would lead to this modification are carried out.

Despite the time elapsed, those affected have not received a reasonable and satisfactory response from either the Regional Government or the competent Ministry, which is why they now require the President of the Autonomous Community to speak on the subject and to respond to the demands of the Platform.

On the other hand, before the change of municipal government in Totana , which will take place during this month of June, the Platform will request the new Mayor of the PSOE of that Murcia locality a meeting to present their demands and request him to maintain their support to those already affected The requests of the Platform.

Likewise, the Platform will ask the municipalities that their legal services investigate if there was any irregularity in the proceedings in case they had to go to court.

It is worth remembering that the solar macroplantation project that the X-Elio company intends to build in Lorca will have a very negative effect on the landscape, since it could occupy more than a thousand hectares of a territory with a great landscape quality and a high potential For ecotourism development that would be mortgaged if the macroplanta were built, because tourism looks for areas with well preserved or traditional landscapes and usually do not spend money on visiting solar plants.

Also, the high voltage line, which would evacuate the energy produced by the solar macroplanta, would cross areas of high ecological and economic value of Aledo, leaving very affected crops of table grape production, one of the main sources of wealth for that municipality.

Equally the impact on part of the municipality of Totana would also be remarkable being similar to the one that would produce in the one of Aledo.

The number of jobs in affected municipalities that would be harmed by the high voltage line would be much higher than those that would be created with the solar macroplanta Lorca, which according to experts would not reach a score, despite the exaggerated Figures that have been shed by the City of Lorca and other Lorca politicians linked to a majority opposition party, intentionally raising to 3,000 jobs to be created, which is totally false and an attempt to manipulate the public opinion.

For the Platform, which is unconditionally in favor of renewable energies, solar plants must be installed in the vicinity of distribution centers to avoid the large impacts that the evacuation lines cause in the environment and the damages to the inhabitants of the rural environment.
