The Ministry of Public Works begins the works of the RM-C8 to improve the safety of the access road to the La Bastida deposit. The director general of Roads, José Antonio Fernández, and the municipal authorities visit the works of rehabilitation of t (06/04/2017)

The repair and rehabilitation works on the RM-C8 road, linking Totana with its hamlet of Viñas-Carivete and is the main access to the archaeological site of La Bastida, began officially today and will last for just over three Months, so that they will be concluded by next summer.

This action, financed entirely by the Ministry of Development and Infrastructures, will increase the stability of the road with the reconstruction of the road, the improvement of drainage and its visibility with the cleaning of ditches and renovation of signage and barriers of protection.

José Antonio Fernández Lladó, director general of Roads, accompanied by the first deputy mayor, Andrés García Cánovas, and other members of the Municipal Corporation gave an account of the beginning of the works and made a brief route along the way.

The works will be carried out by the awarded company, Dragados SA, for a total amount of 544,205 euros and a term of execution of five months, although they will finish sooner.

The director general justified the delay of the works, which had to have begun in December of 2016, by the request of the farmers of the zone for the collection and transfer of the grape and the effects that had the storms of torrential rains of December and March 2017, that forced to review the project that was contracted initially.

For his part, the first deputy mayor expressed his satisfaction at the beginning of the works and noted that the neighbors of the area will have discomfort for a few months for the execution of it,

While emphasizing that it is an infrastructure that will benefit residents of second homes and many property owners because it is an eminently agricultural area.

Both asked for the understanding of the users to avoid the greatest possible disturbance during this time because it is a route that has few communication alternatives during the time the works last, forcing coordination with the Local Police.

The action will improve the road safety of Totana and mobility with nearby towns, such as Viñas, Anchurica and Carivete, thanks to the resurfacing of the road that has a length of eight kilometers and up to 5.5 meters wide.

The works will consist of the regulation of the pavement grade to increase the stability of the road and reconstruction of the firm throughout the road, cleaning gutters to improve the visibility and drainage capacity of the road.

In addition, the existing irrigation channel, located next to the roadway, will be tubed and seven concrete tunnels will be built for the collection of rainwater that falls on the road and cleaning and registration of piped canal.

Emergency works RM-C7
