The Ministry of Education grants to CEIP "La Cruz" the quality label of educational centers "Seal of healthy life" (20/01/2017)

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport has recently awarded the CEIP "La Cruz" of Totana the quality label of educational centers "Seal of healthy life", a recognition in the national scope that is granted to those centers, both public and private , Which stand out publicly for the promotion of health education in the educational field.

In addition, this recognition is given by the assumption of healthy living practices, habits and a physical education that allows adequate personal and social development throughout the schooling of students.

For this reason, the City Council of Totana has held an institutional reception for representatives of the educational community of the school, which has been held in the plenary hall, and has been attended by municipal authorities, teachers (including the director María José Moreno), parents and students of the school, representing the center.

The event was attended by Mayor Juan José Cánovas and Councilor for Education, Eulalia Moreno, as well as representatives of the municipal corporation in general, who congratulated the members of this educational community for the award.

In this first edition, have participated about 300 schools throughout Spain, of which only 73 have been recognized with this award and of them 12 in the Region of Murcia.

As explained, the selection process included requesting a favorable report from the Ministry of Education and Universities of the Autonomous Community, through the Service of Evaluation and Quality Education, which had to send a technical report.

The award of the badge was communicated to the school at the end of last year, and already in September, the school received the pertinent documentation that credits it with this badge.

Outstanding merits

The CEIP "La Cruz" focused its intervention in the field of the school from several transversal perspectives, so that, therefore, the school was assigned to the Health Plan in the School in the course 2007/2008.

At that time, a survey was carried out to determine what the health needs of the school were, and from the results of this study, work began on work related to postural hygiene (it was observed that students did not Sitting correctly or carrying too much weight in backpacks) and personal hygiene (preventing the spread of viral diseases such as colds or flu).

In reference to postural hygiene, in 2011 the school "La Cruz" was already recognized with the 1st National Prize for Health Education in the School, in the III Ibero-American Competition for Good Health Promotion in The school environment.

At the same time, as they remembered, the school participated in the Fruit and Vegetables programs at the School with the purpose of bringing the education community, especially the students, to a healthier diet.

As indicated, these contents have been reinforced every year, and also have been incorporating new ones every year, implementing for example the so-called "healthy breakfast".

Two years ago, CEIP "La Cruz" already bet on the practice of leisure sports in the face of sedentarism by organizing a Health Week that had the visit of several professional athletes from the Region of Murcia, such as Juanfran Guevara (Motorcycling pilot ) Or Manuel Martínez (champion of Spain of Orientation), who gave talks to the students transmitting values as important as the effort, the constancy, as well as the need to lead a healthy life including a good diet and the practice of sport.

In that same school year, in 2015, the health coordinator of the teaching center participated as a speaker in the "Conference of Exchange of Experiences of Education for Health" of educational centers and health professionals in the Region of Murcia.

In addition, in the past academic year 2015/16 the educational community became aware of the importance of Mental Health, specifically the emotions (identify, express and manage them properly) for the formation and development as individuals of the students.

Under the motto "Happy children today, happy adults tomorrow" selected six emotions of which were worked two to the quarter.

Also in the present course 2016/17, the school has raised the importance of protecting against direct and indirect sun exposure in order to make students aware of the effects on the skin of unprotected sun exposure and Why it is so important to use adequate protection at all times throughout the year, not just in the summer months.

Continually, this school in Totana has been betting strongly with the AMPA for "School Sports" and the "School Garden" educational project, and with which school children value their role as well as health benefits.

This is an initiative that has only been underway for two years and already has a good harvest, apart from being a didactic resource of great value and applicable to any area of knowledge that is taught, they explained.

Finally, another of the merits that have contributed to the achievement of this award is that for several years now, the "Patio Project", a program created by Physical Education teachers, has been carried out in this school. The collaboration of the rest of the teaching staff and the good reception of the students, which aims to promote coexistence by recovering traditional games (mate, combo, elastic, hopscotch) and sports games (soccer, basketball) and avoid sedentary lifestyle.
