Palatability of the day on the recognition of water as a human right (08/04/2016)

The CLD of Totana today hosted a conference on the recognition of water as a human right, organized by the Platform of the Third Sector in the Region of Murcia and in collaboration with the City of Totana, which had great acceptance of attendees.

The conference was inaugurated by the Mayor of Totana, Juan José Canovas, and the representative of the Platform for the Third Sector in the Region of Murcia, Eva Leon, who thanked the attendees for their presence and encouraged them to participate in a successful day.

Entitled "Human Right to Water Utopia or Reality?", EAPN-RM this day having as partners the City of Totana and the Spanish Association of Public Operators of Supply and Sanitation (AEOPAS) was organized.

The event was attended by local authorities, such as the councilors Ana Camacho Canovas and Antonia;

as well as the Rafael del Castillo Gomariz, Chief of Social Services, Cooperation and Solidarity, Elderly and Defense Office of Housing of the City of Córdoba, who will present one of the formulas of the human right to water.

Thus it arose that the vital minimum that each person needs to consume to meet their basic needs, not interrupting the water supply provided even if the person can not afford to pay;

in the case of Córdoba, it is 3 m3 of water per person per month to all users of the water service, which are in a situation of social exclusion.

The water supply and sanitation is a basic service first need to be satisfied by the public authorities to ensure a decent quality of life for all citizens, regardless of their economic capacity.

The human right to water, recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010, aims to guarantee every human being a sufficient amount of water (in a country like Spain, the volume ranges between 60-100 liters per inhabitant / day), healthy (good quality), acceptable, physically accessible and economically affordable (social tariffs, gratuity, public source.

On the basis of this right is the idea that no one can be deprived of the amount sufficient and necessary to develop a dignified life even with no financial means to pay for water, and the city councils which are required to ensure access to drinking water to all citizens without discrimination.
