The energy efficiency measures in five municipal buildings in Totana will save 22,500 euros per year (21/03/2016)

The proposed energy efficiency measures within the audit conducted by the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia to Totana Town Council would save 22,500 euros per year and would mean a reduction in CO2 emissions of 32.5 tons per year.

The director of Info, Javier Celdrán, delivered this morning to the local mayor, Juan José Canovas, the results of this audit, which is part of the European ELENA-Fuensanta (European Local Energy Assistance) project, designed to reduce consumption energy and the emission of greenhouse gases.

The event also counted with the assistance of Councillor Services and Infraestructuas, Victor Balsas.

During the ceremony of the audit, Javier Celdrán recalled that this project is a demonstration of the commitment of the government with the aim of reducing energy consumption and emissions of polluting gases.

"The regional government has a strong commitment to the environment and the objectives of the Europe 2020 agenda of the European Union, which envisages a reduction of 20 percent of energy demand, getting 20 percent of the energy consumed comes renewable and get reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent, "said the director of info.

This commitment is articulated through the European program ELENA-Fuensanta, which aims to mobilize an investment of 32 million euros to achieve savings of the annual energy bill of over 4.5 million euros and a saving in energy consumption of the least 40 percent, and a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 6,000 tons per year.

In the case of the City of Totana, energy efficiency measures proposed in the audit by the info assume that with an investment of 110,000 euros this municipality can achieve annual cost savings of 22,500 euros a year, representing 20.5 percent savings on energy bills.

These actions, focusing on interior and exterior lighting, in thermal installations and on energy supplies and represent a return on investment of five years, they would also entail a reduction in CO2 emissions of 32.5 tons per year.

Performances in five municipal buildings

Specifically, the audit has analyzed the energy performance in five municipal buildings, two buildings of the Town Hall, the former home of Contributions and the two pavilions of sport.

Thus, the energy audit has revealed that consumption in the two buildings of the Town Hall currently amounts to 126,883 KWh have been inventoried 708 conventional fixtures that would pass LED type.

We propose here a series of measures that would involve an investment of 75,000 euros would entail energy savings of 50,969 kWh and economic development of about 13,500 euros.

The most significant savings, however, would be obtained with optimization of the contracted power, amounting to 4,600 euros a year.

On the other hand, the most important investment would be the replacement of air-conditioning units, 32,000 euros, which would mean a cost savings of about 1,600 euros per year.

In the Old House of Contributions, which has been detected consumption of 39,000 kWh and an energy cost of 7,050 euros per year, the proposed measures would achieve savings of 22,700 kWh and 4,100 euros a year.

This is a reduction of 58 percent of the energy consumed about 7.5 tons of CO2 that would no longer emitted into the atmosphere.

The total investment in this building amount to 46,000 euros, highlighting the change of air-conditioning units and lights 81 inventoried.

Finally, replacing 184 conventional luminaires installed today in the two sports halls LED achieve a reduction of 50 percent in the energy consumption of these two buildings, which is now 83,500 kWh.
