Since October 2015, the Association "El Candil" has developed in Totana school support activities and educational leisure with children between 6 and 12 years.
This activity is part of the Draft Comprehensive Social Accompanying Families Socially Disadvantaged, funded by the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities CARM in collaboration with the City of Totana.
These classrooms develop activities focused on learning through leisure, using appropriate techniques and tools for this purpose.
In addition to homework, children perform games and workshops that stimulate their knowledge.
These activities are conducted in two classrooms.
One located in social housing in the street Argentina, Monday and Wednesday from 16.30 to 18.30 hours.
The second in the local office of El Parral, Cieza street Santomera street corner, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same time.
The duration of activity throughout the school year will be extended.
He is currently involved 44 children and 35 families.
In this activity a limited number of children involved, since the service is comprehensive and individualized, which represents a high level of expertise and dedication.
The form of access is through schools and social services of the municipality, because they will detect educational needs and relatives of the participants, referring them to the project.
In addition, working in coordination with tutors and teachers of schools which are attended by children with what they are getting improvements in academic outcomes of children who attend support.
This project, which is being done in Totana since October 2014, is a response to the identified needs of diverse families by the Collective El Candil and requests received from several schools in the locality.
Its main objective is the proper care of children and to cover the vital needs for optimal development.
In addition, it is also a priority the promotion of parental responsibilities regarding the education of children.
That is why the project includes counseling and training in parenting skills, which takes place monthly through a parent workshop.
So far, there have been several sessions with a large attendance and parental involvement, addressing issues such as family communication, involvement in school and the importance of limits in education, among others.
