They carry out various actions included in the integrated urban pest control program, more specifically against mosquitoes (04/08/2020)

The Department of Health carries out various actions included in the integrated urban pest control program, specifically, the application of adulticidal insecticide products against mosquitoes has been carried out in recent days in different parts of the town. These include the bed of the Rambla de la Santa, bed of Rambla del Cementerio, municipal park Marcos Ortiz, Garden of Padre Crisóstomo, and treatment with larvicidal insecticides of mosquito breeding sites located in the urban area has also been carried out.

of Totana and its periphery, such as abandoned building structures and rafts in the garden area. The application of the treatments has been carried out by the concessionaire company of the urban pest control service, Lokimica SA after having been cleared by the municipal services of the Department of Services and Maintenance of the City of the areas referred among others.

Actions are also being carried out to control rodents in other parts of the municipality. From the Department of Health, the actions that are required by the residents in relation to the control of urban pests (cockroaches and rodents) in the municipal sanitation network continue to be carried out, as well as approximately 20 cleaning execution orders have been issued of lots in the last week.In relation to the control of the tiger mosquito, it is remembered that it does not need large sheets of water for its breeding, but rather that it prefers small pools of water such as the containers, dishes or pots that are kept in gardens, patios and terraces for pots, buckets with water, small fountains or ornamental lakes, drains for patios, terraces or pools with water, drinking fountains for pets, gutters, ashtrays; reason why for its control it is necessary that on the part of the neighbors the facilities of this type are reviewed that can be had in the houses, avoiding the small accumulations of water, or frequently renewing the water of the same. The tiger mosquito is a small mosquito, adults do not usually exceed 5 mm in length, it is therefore smaller than the mosquitoes that we are used to seeing.

On the other hand, it is a mosquito that usually has a low flight, so the bites occur mainly in the legs, and sometimes they can provoke more evident inflammatory reactions than those of native mosquitoes.

The activity of these mosquitoes is not limited to night time, but is continuous throughout the day.To avoid being bitten, it is advisable to use mosquito repellents when you go out into the gardens, terraces and patios of the houses, as well as the adoption of measures to avoid small pools of water.

Among the repellent products that exist in the market, those that have proven to be the most effective in protecting against the tiger mosquito are those that incorporate: DEET (18%), IR3535, ICARIDINA (15%) or CITRODIOL.

The use of CITRONELLA-based products has not been proven effective. In the case of suspicion of the presence of a tiger mosquito in any home, residents can contact the City Council through the Department of Health. For more information, it can be consulted at:http://www.mosquitoalert.com.

It is a citizen platform to investigate and control the presence of mosquitoes that transmit diseases.
