Totana commemorates the World Environment Day with the reading of a manifesto and the celebration of awareness activities aimed at schoolchildren (06/06/2019)

Totana commemorated today the World Environment Day that was officially held yesterday June 5 - with the reading of an institutional manifesto by the municipal authorities and the celebration of awareness activities aimed at schoolchildren from different schools in the municipality, which have held in the municipal park "Marcos Ortiz" of this town.

This commemorative day has been celebrated throughout the morning and throughout this, and with different scheduled schedules, students from the third year of Primary Education of the Santiago, Tierno Galván, Luis Pérez Rueda schools and the Day Centers of People with Intellectual Disability "José Moyá Trilla" and for People with Mental Illness "Princess Letizia".

The act has had the acting mayor, Andrés García, and the councilors of Environmental Education and Environment acting, Isabel María Molino and Antonia Camacho, respectively.

The activities developed during the day, related to recycling, were carried out by the Asociación Proyecto Abraham;

and about 200 people participated in them.

The City Council of Totana, through the Department of Environment, Waste and Environmental Education, in its policy towards sustainable development, includes the Environmental Education program and the establishment of channels for public participation in environmental matters.

Through these, it is intended to enable a social space of citizen participation and a direct contact with the feeling of citizenship before the environmental aspects that affect the municipality.

The main objectives of this day were to sensitize citizens of the need to protect our urban environment and our natural environment, and help discover and value natural resources locally and globally.

In addition, we wanted to raise awareness about the main current problems suffered by our environment, encourage citizen participation in environmental actions and highlight the importance of the involvement of people in the resolution of environmental problems.

The programmed activities on environmental education and waste were trying to learn the rule of the "3 Rs", through a workshop to learn how to reduce, another to reuse textiles, in which puppets made with socks are made;

and a third, consisting of a game to learn to recycle.

INSTITUTIONAL MANIFESTO WORLD DAY OF THE ENVIRONMENT JUNE 5

The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, held in Stockholm in 1972, marked the beginning of the inclusion of protection and improvement of the environment among the objectives of the general policy of nations and institutions.

Little by little, this concern for the environment has been increasing and nowadays there is a growing number of actions to preserve it and further prevent its deterioration.

For all these reasons, the United Nations Organization wanted to establish June 5 as World Environment Day, in order to remember that it is everyone's responsibility to maintain the conservation of the environment in which we live.

Therefore, the celebration of this day is repeated year after year in various parts of the world with events or celebrations that have the common goal of calling people to be involved in the protection of nature and the pursuit of sustainable development.

The 5th of June, which is currently considered one of the most important events of the environmental calendar, is celebrated worldwide in more than one hundred countries annually.

This observation, help to highlight some of the ways in which the actions of human beings endanger the planet, and highlights the urgent need to change their attitudes and behaviors.

This date serves as inspiration for political and community measures.

Governments, people, non-governmental organizations, community and youth groups, business and industrial sectors and the media organize activities to renew their commitment to the protection and conservation of the environment.

The City Council of Totana, through the Department of Environment, Waste and Environmental Education, in its policy towards Sustainable Development, "includes the" Environmental Education Program "and" Establishment of channels for public participation in environmental matters "through which it is intended to enable a social space of citizen participation and a direct contact with the feeling of the citizenship before the environmental aspects that affect the Municipality.

In this framework, a Day of Activities in Commemoration of the World Environment Day has been held to celebrate such a significant date, in which several activities related to Environmental Education have been carried out regarding waste, learning with the Rule of the 3 R's:

A workshop to learn how to reduce.

A workshop to reuse textiles, in which puppets made with socks are made.

A game to learn to Recycle.

This Day has been destined to the School Centers and Special Centers of our locality.

Among the participating centers are: CEIP Santiago, CEIP Luis Pérez Rueda, CEIP Tierno Galván and Day Centers for People with Mental Illness "Princess Letizia" and Intellectual Disability "José Moyá Trilla".

The development of these activities has been carried out by the City Council of Totana in collaboration with the Abraham Project Association.

From this City Council we invite all citizens to participate, through their involvement, in the prevention and resolution of environmental problems, thus contributing to the conservation and preservation of our environment.
