500 students from 25 educational centers of the Region participate in the program 'Chess in the Classroom', launched by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports during the 2018/2019 academic year, with the aim of "using chess as a tool Mathematical learning of the student ", explained the general director of Attention to Diversity and Educational Quality, Francisco Martínez, who visited the Santiago de Totana School this morning.

The participating teachers will receive a training course organized by the Center for Teachers and Resources of the Region of Murcia.

Likewise, didactic units for the application of chess have been developed as a training tool, which will be made available to the faculty of the 25 participating centers and will be published on the Educarm internet portal so that they can be used by all teachers who wish to do so. and ten chess games will be delivered to each participating center.

School chess "helps the student to develop in a natural way both cognitive and social skills," the general director said.

These skills include memory, the ability to concentrate, decision making and acceptance of error, attention and reflection, the spatial vision of reality: tactics and strategy, problem solving, logical-mathematical reasoning, creative thinking, self-esteem and sense of achievement, critical capacity, initiative and empathy.

The program aims to introduce chess in schools as a pedagogical resource "to contribute to the improvement and help children develop multiple mental skills that will undoubtedly optimize their learning processes such as knowing the movement of parts and standards basic of the game of chess, learn to respect your own turn and know how to wait, learn to solve your own problems and make decisions, work skills of concentration, attention, mental calculation, creativity and imagination, laterality and spatial orientation, as well as other related with the logical-mathematical reasoning ", highlighted Martinez.
