ASBA and Integral carry out cleaning work in the archaeological site of Tira del Lienzo (14/12/2018)

Before and after.

Last November, the Association of Friends of the Archaeological Site of La Bastida, in collaboration with the Integral Society for Rural Development, carried out tasks to clean vegetation in the archaeological site of Tira del Lienzo.

Tira del Lienzo is a site of the society of El Argar (2200-1550 BCE), well known for the other Totanero site, La Bastida.

The town is located on a small hill of little more than one hectare of surface, to little three kilometers to the northeast of the urban helmet of Totana.

It was excavated between 2010 and 2012, in the framework of a didactic initiative coordinated between the "Bastida Project" (Autonomous University of Barcelona) and the public secondary schools of the municipality.

Given its surprising architecture and informative potential, what in principle was considered as a superficial prospecting and cleaning work in a sector very affected by spoliation, it soon became a systematic excavation in extension.

The site is also one of the protagonists of the so-called " Sierra Espuña Argaric Route", which appeals to indoor cultural tourism in the surroundings of the mountains.

The initiative combines archeology with other interests, such as hiking and gastronomy.

Supported by an interactive web portal ( www.ruta-argarica.es ), the route was developed by ASBA with European funds in 2015.

The cleaning work carried out has had the participation of a group of volunteers from the Association of Friends of the Archaeological Site of La Bastida, including residents of Totana and professional archaeologists.

Tira del Lienzo is located on lands that are owned by the company Construcciones Hermanos Palomares, SA, and Integral Sociedad para el Desarrollo Rural is currently responsible for its maintenance.

With this last voluntary action, which has left the structures of Tira del Lienzo without vegetation, the aim is to underline the need for a responsible and sustainable diffusion of the archaeological sites, always by the hand of a regular maintenance.
