They rewarded the library "Mateo García", for the third consecutive year, in the XVIII Contest of the Campaign of Animation to Reading "María Moliner" (07/11/2018)

The municipal public library "Mateo García" has been awarded again this year during the XVIII Contest of the Reading Animation Campaign "María Moliner", which is held every year in municipalities of less than 50,000 inhabitants, through the Ministry of Culture, with a budget of 1,706.66 euros for the acquisition of books for this cultural infrastructure.

In the same, promoted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, aid is called competitive concurrency consisting of lots of books, corresponding to the current year, in this case, 2018.

The public library of Totana offers a wide program of activities to the schools of the municipality directed to students from Infantile Education of 5 years to those of sixth course of Primary Education.

The selection process is carried out through the analysis of a series of criteria, which take into account the clarity and interest of the project for reading animation, good planning and feasibility, as well as originality and immersion in new technologies contained in the proposal.

Through this campaign, the best projects or reading dynamization activities developed in their libraries are awarded, with the aim of promoting reading among all social groups, especially among children and young people, which form the basis of future adult readers.

Prize for the 300 best Spanish libraries

This is done thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and, since 2002, also with the "Coca-Cola" Foundation.

This campaign rewards 300 Spanish libraries that receive bibliographic lots composed of books, selected among the novelties of each year and with special attention to titles of children and youth.

This selection of books is also intended as a sample of current literary production and illustration.

With this action, small municipalities are encouraged and work is developed to promote reading in places where there is usually a difficult access to books, as explained by the mayor of Education and Culture.

This program is of great strategic importance, since approximately half of the Spanish population lives in municipalities of less than 50,000 inhabitants, so this initiative is intended to generate a great impact on the territory.
