Erasmus + of the IES Juan de la Cierva and Codorníu in Finland (29/08/2018)

The IES Juan de la Cierva and Codorniu de Totana is immersed in a methodological change that allows teachers, parents and students to know first hand successful experiences that are developed in other European educational centers.

Opening the doors to Europe means first recognizing one's own shortcomings and proposing solutions that involve training the members of the faculty in new dynamics and successful strategies in the classroom.

Therefore, through the implementation of the European project Erasmus + "Tell me differently", the center aims to develop the linguistic potential of the students in their mother tongue, in written and oral form, their first and second foreign languages, as well as other channels of communication with society (scientific language, theater, music, dance, etc.) that reinforce the expressive and communicative skills of students in a society in constant change.

Fruit of this pedagogical commitment, the teacher of Mathematics of the center, Ms. Juana María Hernández Soto has recently carried out a learning experience by observing good educational practices in the Institute of Secondary Education "Pellonpuiston Koulu", a center with 300 students in Huittinen, a small town in southern Finland, where he has spent 6 days collecting information on the work of Finnish students in Mathematics, which with such good results in PISA tests has been obtained in recent years, as well as in the form to address bullying and diversity in the classroom.

The ratio of 20 students per classroom with two teachers at the same time, the methodology of "Communities of Learning", the multiple technological resources per classroom and the inclusion of the subject "Home economics", where students learn to cook, set the table and cleaning, have been some of the experiences that have seemed most striking.

Also note the great autonomy shown by students in their daily work, as well as the close relationship between students and teachers and the great respect for the work of teachers.

Lastly, on Wednesday, August 22, our colleague Juana Mari was received by the Head of Education of Huittinen, Eija Mattila, who explained how the Finnish educational system works, the characteristics of Education in Huittinen, which includes free education in all the school material and a meal a day and discussed the similarities and differences existing with our educational system in Spain.

From these lines, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the affection and affection shown by the faculty responsible for hosting our colleague in Huittinen and all the teachers at the center for their excellent disposition, coordination and great professionalism.

Throughout the following months, training sessions will be held with teachers, parents and students in the center to implement the learning acquired through this and the following experiences that are planned for the next school year 2018-19.
