Owners of pet companions will be able to identify them with a microchip for a cheaper price (25/06/2018)

Totana pet owners can identify them with an electronic microchip for a cheaper price, responding to veterinary regulations, under the agreement signed with five clinics and veterinary centers in this town, in the framework of the campaign that leads by title "Identify your pet!", promoted by the councils of Health and Animal Protection.

The mayor, Andrés García Cánovas, the councilors of Health and Animal Protection, Isabel María Molino and Agustín Gonzalo Martínez, presented this campaign, accompanied by professional representatives from the five veterinary clinics operating in Totana: Dogo Veterinary Center and Albeytar clinics, The Small Dog, Espuña and Dogo.

These will dispense these microchips to the price of 15 euros within this municipal campaign of identification of pets, a price ostensibly less than the market, which is usually between 35 and 40 euros.

The City Council will deliver, through the municipal veterinary services, up to a total of 800 microchips.

Those responsible for these clinics have signed the collaboration agreement with the City of Totana to carry out this campaign to identify companion animals (dogs, cats and ferrets);

and they have received the microchips that can be placed on the animals and that provide their owners with greater legal security.

As explained by the promoters, this initiative comes to respond to the Law 6/2017, of November 8, Protection and Defense of the Companion Animals of the Region of Murcia, which aims to achieve the highest level of protection and welfare of companion animals, and promote a higher responsibility and a more civic behavior of citizens in the defense and preservation of animals.

With this, they promote, among others, the promotion of responsible ownership, the fight against abandonment, campaigns to identify and sterilize animals, establishing the necessary concerts with the veterinarians of pet animals.

This initiative is developed since the City Council has the necessary budgetary allocations for carrying out actions in public health, health and awareness of pet ownership;

and since in the municipality of Totana.

In addition, it is promoted, taking into account that Article 4.2 of Law 6/2018, establishes the obligation on the part of owners of pet animals, to have the animal properly identified in the manner and conditions imposed by the applicable regulations, as well as how to inscribe them in the corresponding registers.

Municipal officials have glossed the benefits of identifying these animals and encouraged pet owners to take advantage of this campaign to regularize the situation of their pets.

The municipal ordinance on Protection and Defense of Companion Animals, in its article 11, establishes the compulsory nature of identification of companion animals through the implementation of an electronic microchip.

Thus, Law 6/2018, in its article 14.2, establishes that for dogs, cats and ferrets, identification will be carried out through the implementation of an electronic identifier, accompanied by the corresponding identification document.

Article 14.4 of Law 6/2017 establishes that the qualified veterinarians will be the ones who will carry out the identification of the animals, as well as being responsible for the inclusion in the corresponding registry of the data related to the owners of the animals. , identification of the same, as well as the diseases and treatments that are established by regulation, as established in article 15 of the aforementioned law.

Similarly, the Local Police has received a microchip reader that will be used only in cases of urgency, since the handling of animals will be the responsibility of the professionals of the veterinary centers, the municipal veterinary services and the technicians of the awarded company. of animals abandoned or lost on public roads.
