Totana makes an institutional defense in support of the LGTBI Collective on the occasion of the celebration of the International LGBTI Pride Day (03/06/2018)

The Plenary Session of the City Council of Totana agreed in its last ordinary session, unanimously, to contribute in the competences that are proper to the development and application of all the planned measures against discrimination based on orientation, sexual identity and family diversity in order to eradicate the society any type of homophobia in the family, school, work, social and political spheres.

The corporative ones approved, unanimously, the essential proposal of the joint motion presented by the Socialist and Ganar Totana-IU municipal groups, although some agreements collected in the initiative saw green light with nuances or were not subscribed in their entirety by the PP and the mayor not attached.

In addition, the contribution of all those people and groups that have been defending for decades the rights of lesbians, gays, transsexuals and bisexuals was unanimously recognized;

and this year especially LGBT teenagers.

Similarly, it was also approved, also unanimously, to collaborate in education and social awareness for the recognition of real equality and the rights of all people regardless of their sexual choice.

The initiative also included demanding the regional government to recover the sensitization talks that the Colectivo No Te Prives had been carrying out in the educational centers as an extracurricular activity and that had such good results in these eight years of activity, which was approved with the votes in favor of the PSOE and Ganar Totana-IU and against the PP and the non-attached councilor.

The councilors approved, with the photos in favor of the PSOE, Ganar Totana-IU and the non-attached councilor, to urge the regional government to develop the law of 8/2016, May 27, social equality of lesbians, gays, bisexuals , transgender or transgender and intersex, and public policies against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the Region, approved unanimously on May 19, 2016.

Finally, it was decided, with the votes in favor of the PSOE and Ganar Totana-IU, against the non-attached mayor and the abstention of the PP, to extend, as already do some municipalities, on June 28, a banner with the colors of the rainbow flag, representative of the LGBT collective, on the main façade of the town hall building, together with the rest of the institutional flags.
