The mayor calls the working group approved by the Plenary on the new layout of the AVE and the High Voltage Line of the Catenary, to coordinate joint lines of action (24/05/2018)

The mayor of Totana, Andrés García, has convened the first meeting of the working group approved by the municipal plenary on May 11 regarding the new layout of the AVE and the High Voltage Line of the Catenary of this infrastructure, which is will be held next Tuesday, May 29, starting at 8:30 am.

The Plenary Session of the City Council of Totana agreed to set up a working group, chaired by the mayor and with the presence of the municipal groups, the non-attached councilor and the representatives of the Platform Against the Trace of the AVE and a representation of those affected by the Line of High Voltage of the Catenary in order to share information, study lines of action and coordinate initiatives to undertake jointly.

The agenda of the call includes the constitution of the aforementioned working group, the actions to be developed and a section for the turn of requests and questions.

The Municipal Corporation gave the green light to a joint motion and decided, in urgent extraordinary session, unanimously, to demand from the Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (Adif) and the Ministry of Public Works the immediate paralysis of the draft of the AVE in progress and the works of High Voltage Line that would service the catenary;

and that a new route be negotiated that minimally affects the public and private interests affected in this municipal area.

The resolution of the Mayor's Office was also ratified, giving an account of the allegation sent by the Totanero Consistory about the construction project of the Murcia-Almeria Mediterranean High-Speed Corridor platform, in the Sangonera-Lorca section.

Likewise, it was agreed to order Mayor Andrés García to execute the plenary agreements and to take the necessary steps imminently before Adif, the Government Delegation and the Ministry of Public Works.

In addition, it was decided to take as many legal actions as necessary in order to declare the nullity of the resolutions adopted by Adif and the Ministry of Development, and immediately request the adoption of any precautionary measures deemed necessary in order to preserve the urban and environmental legality of the project.

The mayor of Totana, accompanied by a delegation of municipal and affected politicians met last Thursday, May 17, at the Adif headquarters in Madrid, with its president Juan Bravo Rivera, in order to transfer the popular sentiment and that of the municipal institution, although this entity was not at all receptive to bilateral negotiation.

For several weeks, every Wednesday afternoon, affected neighbors and citizens in general are gathered at the gates of the Totana City Hall, in the Plaza de la Constitución, to protest the layout of this project.

The Totanero Consistory has presented a unique claim to the project of the new route of the AVE as it passes through this municipality, arguing technical criteria for the replacement and reconstruction of infrastructures and, above all, of the environment, given that the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of the project dates from year 2004.

Totana is the municipality where more farms are concentrated in the new rail stretch projected between Sangonera and Lorca, of 48.3 kilometers in length.

A total of 1,255 farms and plots will be expropriated in the five municipalities affected by the Mediterranean Corridor from Sangonera to Lorca, of which only 104 are municipal property.

By municipalities, Totana is the term that contributes the most: above half a million meters, which correspond to 394 farms.

In addition to these lands, others will be occupied - of smaller extension and of temporary form - to execute the works, as well as the rights of way.
