The City Council is working with the "Basic Guide to the Way of the True Cross" (07/06/2010)

The City Council of Totana, through the Department of Sports, participated along with seven other municipalities and various hiking clubs in the region, the development of a "Basic Guide to the Way of the True Cross", in which includes a new path "Campo de Cartagena" passing through the town of Totana.

The councilman of Deportes, José Antonio Valverde Queen, and the coordinator of the publication, Lazaro Gimenez, presented this morning this guide that includes a path designed by several associations of walking and running from Cartagena Natursport to Caravaca and passes totanero the hull of the municipality and the Natural Park of Sierra Espuña.

The mayor, who has congratulated the coordinator for the excellent work and quality that has been made in this publication has explained that this guide is to facilitate people who wish to take the Paths of Vera Cruz a powerful tool that will provide all information needed to travel.

The book tells of the ways each has a description of the different stages, one sheet, the profile of each stage and the cell of interest (tourist offices, accommodation, etc.).

In addition to the guide also has published a brochure describing the path of Campo de Cartagena and its signaling by the municipalities.

The Guide provides a comprehensive introduction that explains everything you need to consider before making a pilgrimage: tips for heating, walking, eating, prevention of injuries and accidents, advice on clothing, shoes, backpacks and advice for sleep, rest and stay.

Following the introduction, as explained by its author, the guide describes eight ways to Caravaca, one more than the famous book "Los Caminos de la Vera Cruz" published by the CAM and the new is running through Totana.

The road "Campo de Cartagena" starts in the basin of Santiago de Cartagena, where according to legend, the Apostle landed to evangelize the Iberian Peninsula.

Lázaro Jiménez stated that "although there is another road from Cartagena (known as" the Apostle ") at hand it is much nicer because it avoids the metropolitan area of Murcia city."

The 136 km fully signposted, passing through Cartagena, Fuente Alamo, Alhama, Totana, Lorca and Caravaca de la Cruz.

With this new road, the so-called "low Guadalentín" coming out of Mazarrón, are now two (eight) the marked trails that pass through Totana and also "make night" in our town

This, as explained by the Councillor for Sports, is very important when you consider that in 2003 there were a million pilgrims and that in this new Holy Year pilgrims is increasing 58%.

The pilgrims enter the station Totana, General Aznar will travel the street, Main Street Seville and from there cross the area of the gardens and the promenade up to La Santa.

Hikers will overnight in the county, or municipal facilities in the City offers free or at hotels, country houses or shelters.

Pilgrim's primer, which will be sealed in the parish of Santiago or the Tourist Office, can collect in any office of the CAM.
